June is about #MensHealthMonth, and EVPS Sites is celebrating the health and wellness of our male patients and their families.
No matter how you and yours celebrate Men’s Health Month, we hope you’ll find ways to improve your own health, while also encouraging the men you care about the most to take wellness and healthcare seriously.
Every year for almost 3 decades, Men’s Health Month has been celebrated during June. The purpose of the annual observance is to increase awareness of the multitude of preventable male health issues and encourage early detection and treatment of the diseases among both boys and men as well as promote healthy habits and living. Through the unique platform, disease prevention tools, screening programs, and advocacy opportunities are made available to educate males across the country.
The Stats
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, men in the United States, on average, die 5 years earlier than women and die at higher rates from three leading causes of death, heart disease, cancer, and unintentional injuries. It has been found that part of the reason is that men hesitate to go to the doctor while studies have shown women to go see a physician twice as much as men. Thus, the purpose for prevention is crucial since certain conditions can be looked upon and treated with regular visits.
The Boys and The Men
All men, especially seniors, should get regular check-ups to have a better quality of life. Screenings for blood pressure, colorectal cancer, diabetes, and depression are recommended. Medications and vaccinations should be kept up to date while eating healthy, taking vitamins and supplements, applying sunscreen, and exercising are always encouraged. The younger generations should be taught to start these good habits early to prevent any problems later.
Hopefully, Men’s Health Month will heighten awareness of the many preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease for males of all ages. EVPS Sites wants to encourage you or your favorite men to:
